This week’s Orchid Wise Orchid of the Week comes from 3 Amigos Orchids in South Australia. This great group of growers has recently produced and showcased some outstanding tetraploid show bench Cymbidiums. Furthermore, they have now taken their passion even further by breeding their own plants. So, be sure to watch out for what’s to come—the future looks incredibly promising for the show bench! Meanwhile, Cym. Kirby Dream is the creation of the highly skilled Keith Wallace from New South Wales. Over his long and dedicated career, he has carefully crafted some quite remarkable crosses. As a result, his breeding efforts have provided us with some fantastic parents to continue the breeding with!
Additionally, the photos featured here, generously shared by 3 Amigos Orchids, showcase just two examples of the fantastic results obtained from different seedlings. Without a doubt, there are many more impressive blooms from this breeding line.
Notably, this lineage includes well-known show bench plants such as Cym. Khan Flame, Cym. Flaming Vulcan, and Cym. Kirby Lesh. Given this strong genetic background, it’s no surprise that this breeding program has once again produced such a beautifully balanced flower.
Tracing this plant’s original species ancestors using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. eburneum are the major species contributors of this plant!
