The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
Pure colour yellows are always bright and bold and shout ‘look at me’, and Cym. Daisy Mae is no exception!
This plant originates from Casa de las Orquideas in Southern California and was a crossing of Cym. Pure Bisque `Glen Avon’ x Cym. Sleeping Nymph `Perfection’. Casa de las Orquideas have had an extensive breeding program over many years and have given us some pretty cool plants!
In the background of Cym. Daisy Mae is some very well known and important historical Cyms such as Cym. Sussex Dawn, Cym. Melinga and Cym. Sirius. There is a lot of pure colour whites in the background and Cym. insigne accounts for a very healthy 38% of the total makeup of this plant.
Most of the line breeding consists of pure colour Cymbidiums and the yellow could be courtesy of Cym. Sleeping Beauty which can be found as a beautiful pure colour yellow.
I’m a big fan of pure colour Cymbidiums, and I am using some in my breeding, Pure colour plants are a great addition to any collection, but in the hobbyist green house, they break up the variety of all other plants with a point of difference.

Tracing this plant’s original species ancestors using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. hookerianum and Cym. lowianum are the major species contributors of this plant!
