The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
It’s new breeding from Bryants Orchids in Australia for this week’s Orchid of the Week.
So many good Cyms can be found in the background of this plant….Bryant’s have been at this game for a long time now and have produced some really stunning plants over the years. Consistently producing large standard flowers with good shape is something we’ve come to expect from Bryants these days.
A wonderful dark Cym for the collection!
Cym. Flaming Wraith is another good example, and unfortunately the photo really doesn’t do it justice. You must see this flower up close and personal to fully appreciate the colour! One of the parents, Cym. Pepper Blaze, was a similar story. You could never quite capture the colour in a photo. It had to be seen in person to appreciate.
You won’t get too many Cyms with a bolder lip than here…..huge dark red labellum colouring with a white pollen cap and white calli set this flower off! The shape is good and not too flat, nor too cuppy and the dark red wine colour is fantastic.
In the background on both sides of this cross sits Cym. Khan Flame, a very successful plant all over the world. Add in Cym. Blazing Fury and Cym. Wyong Flame and it’s a recipe for something good to result! Bryants have a knack of selecting the right parents for the job.
Tracing this plant’s original species ancestors using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. eburneum are the major species contributors of this plant!
