The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
This week’s Cymbidium Orchid of the Week is one of those timeless flowers that will just never go out of fashion. Endlessly sought after by hobbyists are Cymbidium Orchid’s like this one and they fly off the trading tables if one ever gets that far! Usually they are snaffled by all and sundry long before! Unusual colourings and spots are always popular.
There are several cultivars in this grex and among them are ‘Paulista’, ‘Pink Puma’, probably the two most well known. This photo above reminds me a lot of Cym. Charm x Cym. Via Real, which I am lucky enough to own, and will feature here in the Orchid of the Week in the future. And another photo I have seen of ‘Paulista’ reminds me of the grex Cym. Early King, having no maroon in the colour at all, just spots and dots in brown shades on a fawn background.
Cym. Enzan Knuckle has a very heavy Cym. tracyanum influence, with Cym. Doris in the background as well as Cym. Sensation, giving the flower a bit of its telltale red/maroon influence.

Tracing this plant’s original species ancestors using Orchid Roots, Cym. tracyanum, Cym. insigne and Cym. eburneum are the major species contributors of this plant!
