Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Fifi × Cym. Howard Cobb

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

This week we head back to the 2014 Santa Barbara International Orchid Show and the best blooming pink shade of that year – Cymbidium Carol Rogers. Originating from Hatfield Orchids in the U.S. George Hatfield is a very experienced grower and breeder and has produced some wonderful Cym’s over the years. And you will see more of his work in Orchid of the Week as we go.

Cym Carol Rogers was the recipient of an Award of Merit at the 2014 Santa Barbara International Orchid Show.

There are no registered offspring as yet, but who knows what will be used for breeding in the future. Carol Rogers’ parents are an interesting cross, and has an old favourite in the background too – Cym. Alexanderi!

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, and Cym. madidum are the major contributors present in the distant background with Cym. lowianum being the third largest contributor.
