Orchid of the Week

This weeks Orchid of the week is… Cym. Gentle Touch ‘Bon Bon’

Cym. Gentle Touch 'Bon Bon'
Cym. Gentle Touch ‘Bon Bon’

Parentage: Cymbidium Amesbury × Cymbidium Borough Green

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

Greens aren’t as easy to come by compared to pinks and whites, so Gentle Touch is a great coloured intermediate Cym with interesting, and striking, lip markings. Registered by Nado Lenkic of Springfield Orchids in Western Australia. It adds a great pop of a different colour to a season’s flowering collection.

This Cymbidium plant is also one from my own private collection, and this photo is from the 2022 flowering. However, not long after flowering, this plant tested positive for ORSV and has since been destroyed. The plant was asymptomatic, so just goes to show how vigilant one must be to keep a healthy collection.

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. hookeranium are the main contributors present in the distant background.
