This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Khan Fury ‘Black Plum’
Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Khan Flame × Cym. Blazing Fury
Registered: 2005
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
Cym. Khan Fury ‘Black Plum’ is our Orchid of the Week this week. It is a dramatic deep red/burgundy Cym with very bold interesting lip markings. It is the progeny of another of my favourites – Cym. Blazing Fury, which I have in my collection already.
Bred and registered by Gordon Giles who breeds some really fantastic Cymbidiums, Cym. Khan Fury is a cracker that won’t go unnoticed in the collection, or on the show bench.
Again, being a dark red, we see Cym. Sensation in the background numerous times and Cym. Khan Fury is being used by breeders such as Keith Wallace and John Gate as a parent, and these guys only use the best plants for breeding!
The above plant was grown and photographed by Scott Barrie from Barrita Orchids with the image having been taken from the Barrita Orchids Facebook page. Scott is a very experienced commercial grower and the above image is representative of the quality of his plants!
I’m definitely looking to add this one to my collection at some point!
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne and Cym. lowianum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
