This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Cheryl Erins
Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Nancy Miyamoto × Cym. devonianum
Registered: 2019
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
Our Orchid of the Week this time around is quite striking and something different to say the least. From the breeding of George Hatfield comes a Cym. devonianum hybrid with good breeding in the background. Grown by the 3 Amigos in Adelaide Australia, they have a wonderful plant in Cym. Cheryl Erins ‘3 Amigos’.
A double dose of Cym. devonianum, as well as other well known plants such as Cym. Vogelsang, Cym. Tethys and a healthy percentage of Cym. insigne have produced a long pendulous spike and a cracker of a flower. Especially if you like spots!
The above plant was grown and photographed by the 3 Amigos with the image having been taken from the 3 Amigos Orchids FaceBook page.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, obviously the species Cym. devonianum is a 50% parent of this crossing, with Cym. insigne the other major species contributor present in the background.
