This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Hazel’s Sox
Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Red Sox × Cym. Hazel Tyers
Registered: 2022
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
For those that love spots and stripes our Orchid of the Week this week shouldn’t disappoint.
Cym. Hazel’s Sox has a very dark bold lip to set off the very interesting colour of this flower. Cym. Hazel Tyers has produced some wonderful offspring over the years, and though this offering may not win on the show bench it will certainly stand out amongst your collection.
Cym. Red Sox has Cym. Sensation in the background, a historical red Cym. responsible for the red colour in so many of our modern orchids. Not to be outdone, Cym. Hazel Tyres has an equally important plant in it’s background, Cym. Sussex Dawn. An amazingly often used white parent, resulting in a huge number of registered offspring.
This particular plant was grown and flowered in 2021 by Scott Barrie from Barrita Orchids and the image used above was sourced from the Barrita Orchids Facebook page.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne and Cym. lowianum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
