This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Andrew Legacy ‘Cal’
Parentage: This weeks Orchid of the Week is a cross between Cym. Devon Parish × Cym. Parish Green
Registered: 2018
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
This week’s Orchid of the Week is another interesting hybrid from Andy Easton. Lots of species influence here with Cym. Devonianum and Cym. sanderae featuring very heavily. Andy also bred the parents of Cym. Andrew Legacy – Cym. Devon Parish and Cym. Parish Green, so clearly he has some ideas going forward with this line!
As you would expect, a more compact plant, a pendulous spike habit, a decent flower count, with a delicate petal colour and one of the boldest full block lips on a Cym. I’d love to see a plant with 4 or more spikes to get the full effect here!
This Cym hybrid also produced a number of varied progeny with some flowers being a pastel pink/white
Cym. Andrew Legacy has just been registered (2024) as a pollen parent with Cym. Sarah Jean to produce Cym. Soledad….and the result of the one photo I have seen is heavily influenced by the Cym. Sarah Jean traits, maintaing the Sarah Jean shape and lip but a pretty flower for sure.
No doubt Andy will have further plans for Cym. Andrew Legacy so I can’t wait to see what’s next! Photo credit goes to Andy Easton also.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. sanderae and Cym devonianum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
