This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Tracey Reddaway
Parentage: This weeks Orchid of the Week is a cross between Cym. Trigo Royale × Cym. Coraki
Registered: 1989
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
This week’s Orchid of the Week is a classic favourite!
Cym. Tracey Reddaway has proven to be an undeniably successful orchid. Bred by Andy Easton when Geyserland Orchids was operating in New Zealand, it still appears on the show bench today, over 30 years after its release!
You can spot it in many backyard collections, where it remains a favourite for many enthusiasts. Altogether, there were several popular and successful cultivars, most of which are still available today.
Consequently, and not surprisingly, breeders have extensively used Cym. Tracey Reddaway as a parent in 80 new progeny registrations since!
Among its well-known progeny are Cym. Yellow River, Cym. Annie Kelly, and Cym. Mighty Tracey. Without a doubt, there will be more to come.
With its tall, straight spikes and plenty of flowers, a multi-spiking Cym. Tracey Reddaway really stands out with its bright yellow blooms visible from a distance. You won’t miss this one in a crowd! These photos certainly illustrate this….
These photos were taken at the July 2024 meeting of the Cymbidium Orchid Club of South Australia.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne and Cym. lowianum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
