This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Golden Dragon ‘Hello’

Parentage: This week’s Orchid of the Week is a cross between Cym. Psychotic x Cym. Highland Advent
Registered: 2017
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
This week’s Orchid Wise Orchid of the Week comes to you from Pierre Pujol in the United States. A very accomplished breeder, Pierre has produced some very nice plants that I have seen over the last few years.
This Sepal Peloric is certainly an eye-catcher though! And the image comes courtesy of Pierre. A very strong bold labellum is accentuated by the peloric sepals, and this flower wouldn’t pop as much as it does in many other colours! There were other Sepal Peloric cultivars flowered and ‘Hello’ was just one of them.

One of the parents, Cym. Psychotic, also came in a Sepal Peloric with the clonal name of ‘Green Dragon’ as seen here with a photo from Cymserely Yours. So there was every chance Cym. Golden Dragon may also produce a Sepal Peloric.
However, the cultivars used in Cym. Golden Dragon were actually Cym. Psychotic ‘Cream Puff’ and Cym. Highland Advent ‘Trinity’.
Certainly a vibrant coloured Cym. worthy of a spot in a hobbyist’s collection!
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, the major contributors are Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. Hookerianum.
