The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
This week we check out a plant with some interesting parentage and background. Bred and registered by Andy Easton, this intermediate has up to 16 blooms on upright spikes. a very shapely flower and a bold red lip too!
What I find more interesting than the flower itself is the variety of great plants in the background… We have a bunch of well known and influential hybrid Cymbidiums – Cym. Sleeping Dawn, Cym. Sleeping Dream, Cym. Sussex Dawn and Cym. Durham Castle, but to name just a few! All wonderful plants in their own right.
So, it’s no surprise that Andy created a nice well rounded flower here! Cym. Hatttusa is the only registered progeny from Cym. Kris Kallman but it may be worth using again to further the line…

Tracing the plant’s heritage using Orchid Roots, its primary species ancestors are Cym. insigne, Cym. devonianum and Cym. lowianum.
