The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
New breeding this week from George Hatfield in the United States. I have to say I love the idea of crossing a primary hybrid back onto other plants, and here is a good example of a successful mating using the not often used primary hybrid Cym. Pumilow!
The exact crossing here for Cym. Molly May 4n is Cym. Pumilow ‘New Horizons’ 4N x Cym. Olive Street ‘Perfection’ 4N.
Wonderfully long cascading spikes on this first flowering seeding for George with a great flower count too! George is doing some great stuff for us at the moment with lots of new and wonderful seedlings coming on-line so keep an eye out as we feature more of his new hybrids in coming months. Tracing the plant’s heritage using Orchid Roots, its primary species ancestors are Cym. lowianum, Cym. devonianum and Cym. floribundum.
