The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
I own one of the parents of Cym. Regal Fury – Cym. Khan Fury, a hybrid made by the late Gordon Giles. And I love how dark a flower it is. Pairing it with the equally dark and awarded Cym. Regal Flames might have been an inevitability, but Geoff Le Marne, the President of the Cymbidium Club of Australia did it, and boy, has he come up with a good one!
The result is a great sized standard flower on tall upright spikes and a wonderfully dark red wine colour that is the ultimate contrast to the green foliage of the plant. The dark labellum is fantastic and the white pollen cap really set’s this flower off.
This beauty comes from a long line of exceptional plants, including: Cym. Khan Flame, Cym. Blazing Fury and Cym. Alexandra’s Flame. There is also a healthy 35% of Cym. Sensation in the overall makeup!
We have no registered progeny from Cym. Regal Fury as yet, however, I have no doubt there are seed pods on this plant everywhere and flasks in labs too!

I haven’t yet added this hybrid to my collection but I would suggest there is a good chance of it happening soon! I think it deseves a place.
Cym. Regal Fury is now widely available so it’s one I would recommend adding to your collection.
Tracing the plant’s heritage using Orchid Roots, its primary species ancestors are Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. eburneum.
