The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
3 Amigos Orchids in South Australia have flowered a ripping large pink standard in Cym. Khan Dynasty ‘3 Amigos’. In the sunlight this flower is really lovely.
For those familiar with Cym. Dural Dream and Cym. Khanebono, this was a hybrid destined to be made! Bred by John Gate, one of the most renowned Australian breeders we have. John doesn’t go crazy with the hybrids in terms of numbers, however he carefully selects high quality show bench plants for his hybrids, and he has produced some crackers over the years.
3 Amigos Orchids have flowered this particular cultivar with a very interesting labellum and lovely pale coloured petals and sepals.
There is a lot of large standard breeding behind this plant. Plants like Cym. Flaming Vulcan, Cym. Lunar Flame and Cym. Khan Flame can all be found two and three generations back. So there is plenty of good pedigree here.
This will be a moderately large plant with medium to large bulbs and tall upright spikes with a good flower count, and will certainly look very lovely in the collection!

Tracing the plant’s heritage using Orchid Roots, its primary species ancestors are Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. eburneum.
