The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
Following on in our series of Cym. Edward Marshall progeny from Sundaani Orchids, this weeks Orchid Wise Orchid of the Week is a cross that I would not have thought to do…….probably as I would have stayed on the old vintage or species path of hybrids. Good thing for us that Sundaani Orchids thought otherwise, as this week’s Orchid of the Week is certainly different!
The pollen parent of this hybrid is Cym. Hot and Happy. Cym Hot and Happy is a cross of Cym. Hot and Cold and Cym. Happy. This is all getting to be a bit of a mouthful! It is a plant I have never seen, nor heard of, but another Sundaani Orchids registration. But where I’m getting to is that a parent of Cym. Happy is a very famous plant – Cym. Solana Beach, registered back in 1969, which has some pretty awesome plants in the background, so check it out here.
The resulting Cym. Sundaani Spots cultivars are fairly unique, and are certainly for the spots and dots lovers, and maybe not for the old fashioned purists!

Finally, tracing the plant’s heritage through Orchid Roots reveals its primary species ancestors are Cym. insigne, Cym. hookerianum and Cym. tracyanum.
