This week’s Orchid Wise Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Anna Szabo ‘Geyserland’

Parentage: This week’s Orchid of the Week is a cross between Cym. Rod Stewart x Cym.
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
Cym. Anna Szabo ‘Geyserland’ has been an immensely popular bloom for 20 years. An upright standard sized flower in pristine white with a maroon labellum and yellow callus ridges, it has been a bit timeless. Still seen on the show bench and still appealing to all and sundry, this plant seems to last forever! Certainly popular enough for breeding, with 20 registered progeny so far. One I currently own – Cym. Anna Dragon, and another I have seen – Cym. Barrita Trinket, which is a lovely plant in itself.
Some good breeding can be seen behind Cym. Anna Szabo…..For example, Cym. Hazel Tyres has provided us with some cracking progeny over the years, but also further back we find Cym. Sussex Dawn and Cym. Balkis and then Cym. sanderae for a bit of species influence! All reinforcing the solid breeding of Cym. Anna Szabo.
I previously owned Cym. Anna Szabo myself, and the image above is from my plant. However it was good enough to give to give away and brighten someone else’s life at the time. Who knows, if I find another as good it may find its way back into my collection….
Finally, tracing the heritage of our Orchid of the Week through Orchid Roots reveals its primary species ancestors are Cym. insigne, Cym. sanderae and Cym. lowianum.
