Orchid of the Week

This weeks Orchid of the week is… Cym. Molten Gold ‘Corinna’

Cym. Molten Gold 'Corinna'
Cym. Molten Gold ‘Corinna’

Parentage: Cymbidium Scott’s Sunrise × Cymbidium Crater

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

This Cymbidium seedling is one from my own private collection, and was originally bred by Adelaide Orchids. Nado Lenkic from Springfield Orchids purchased a compot of the plants from Adelaide Orchids and flowered it, subsequently registering it with permission.

I obtained this plant from a local grower’s family in 2021. This flower, photographed in 2022, from a beautiful long spike with numerous flowers certainly stood out in the collection! Probably not a prize winner looking at the size and shape of the petals, but still colourful, none the less.

This is the only plant I have with this varietal/cultivar name, and I suspect there are no others. I do, however, have another Molten Gold with another varietal name from the same local grower. This is yet to flower for me, so it will be interesting to see the differences between the two!

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, there is a mostly cym. insigne and cym. lowianum present in the distant background, as well as a couple of well known, more recent parents.
