6 Orange Cymbidium Orchid Hybrids to Get Your Collection Started!

If orange is your weakness, there are some very showy flowers out there, but try these 6 good quality and very eye-catching orange Cymbidium Hybrids to get your collection off to a good start…

All of these hybrids have been around for a while, but these 6 orange Cymbidium Orchid Hybrids are tried and tested, widely available and still popular today. Another article to follow will highlight new breeding and up to date recent releases to modernise your collection.

Cym. Foxfire Amber ‘Dural’

Registered in 2006 this Cym is a cross between Cym. Lunar Wall × Cym. Electric Ladyland

A very popular Cym over the years and a great addition to the beginner collection, and already used as a parent extensively in further breeding.

Foxfire Amber is still widely available and this image was taken from the Springfield Orchids website.

Cym. Pumisan ‘Orange’

Registered in 1967 this Cym is a cross between Cym. Susan × Cym. floribundum

This is quite an old Cym. but is still widely available and popular today. A good and easy grower for the beginner too.

This image of Cym. Pumisan ‘Orange’ has been borrowed from the Tauranga Orchid Society website in New Zealand.

Cym. Red Coral ‘Mystery Orange’

Registered in 1994 this Cym is a cross between Cym. Red Panther × Cym. Coratea

Certainly worthy of a look in for new growers. ‘Mystery Orange’ is a deep orange colour that attracts attention.

This image is of my ‘Mystery Orange’ back in 2011 before I lost the plant to Orchid Fleck Virus. It was a terrific flowerer and always turned an eye.

Cym. Wallacia ‘Burnt Gold’

Registered in 1974 this Cym is a cross between Cym. Warona × Cym. Alnwick Castle

An older one, however, still stands up today, creates a statement and is readily available. ‘Burnt Gold’ has been used pretty extensively as a parent in further breeding, no doubt in an attempt to get a similar colouring.

This image was taken from the internet, and I was unable to locate photo credits.

Cym. Harbour City ‘Sydney’

Registered in 2009 this Cym is a cross between Cym. Blazing Fury × Cym. Lunakira

A very worthy addition to your collection with a lovely shape and colour.

This image was taken from the internet, however looks exactly like the one I had before losing it to ORSV virus last year.

Cym. Alexandra Beauty ‘Orange Crush’

Registered in 2001 this Cym is a cross between Cym. Tracey Reddaway × Cym. Red Beauty

A very worthy addition to brighten up your collection. Cym. Tracey Reddaway has been a great parent for breeding, so no surprises Alexandra Beauty is so good.

Alexandra Beauty has also already been used as a parent in further breeding with some great results.

Clones of the original plant are available from Springfield Orchids in Western Australia. Image from the Springfield Orchids website.
