This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. John Fogerty
Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Bunyip × Cym. parishii
Registered: 2020
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
This is an interesting and cute tetraploid hybrid, bred by Andy Easton using Cym. Bunyip.
Andy Easton is a very well known and experienced Cymbidium breeder, and is probably the walking encyclopaedia on Cymbidium orchids of the last several decades. His knowledge is hard to compare to.
Cym Bunyip is half Cym. suave (which in itself is an interesting flower) which brings some warmth tolerance into the Cym. John Fogerty cross, and the soft colour of the flower makes it very attractive indeed. And how about those lip markings!
I’m not sure where this one might be available, or even if. But if you find it, I reckon it might be worth the purchase!
The above plant was grown and photographed by Andy Easton. And the image has been taken from from Andy Easton’s Facebook page with permission.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, obviously we are looking at Cym. parishii and Cym. suave with a little Cym. insigne thrown in too. There are a few other species contributors, but the percentages are very low.
