Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Lunar Wall × Cym. Electric Ladyland

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

This week’s Orchid of the Week is another tried and tested performer. A very popular Cymbidium since release and a nice bold orange flower. It has been around for a while now but is still a part of many collections and on a multi-spike plant looks absolutely fabulous with that bold red lip.

Of note is Cymbidium Wallacia being one of the seed grandparents. Wallacia was a very popular plant with it’s bright coloured orange flower.

Cym. Foxfire Amber is also a very good breeder and has now produced a number of progeny. There are currently over 30 registered offspring with this first generation producing some great flowers which are already available for sale.

This image is from my collection, it’s 2022 flowering. This plant is still very widely available, often being advertised on eBay and other places, so it won’t be hard to obtain a piece.

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots Cym. insigne and Cym. lowianum are the major contributors present in the distant background, with Cym. hookeranium and seven other species Cyms making up the minor species contributors so it’s a real mix!
