This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Dream ‘Ice Green’
Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Sleeping Dream × Cym. Culpaulin
Registered: 2004
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
A really pretty mid ice-green with a contrasting white and yellow lip makes a great statement for this week’s Orchid of the Week! It’s an oldie, being registered in 2004, however will still hold it’s own in a collection. A great green isn’t the easiest to com by but this one is certainly up there! Cym. Dream holds nicely shaped standard sized flowers on a long arching spike and would compliment any collection with a range of colours to contrast against.
This hybrid was registered by Nado Lenkic of Springfield Orchids, who has made some wonderful crosses over the years and I have many of his plants in my collection. Both parents have Cym. Sussex Dawn in their lineage and also some Cym. Alexanderi so it’s no surprise Cym. Dream looks as good as it does!
Cym. Dream has made it onto my wants list for the ice-green colour, and the lip certainly adds to the appeal.
The image above was provided by Orchid Design, located in San Jose California, so if you are looking for Cym. Dream in the United States, then give them a shout.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum and Cym. hookerianum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
