This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Helen Tangcay ‘Charming’
Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Dorothy Rowe × Cym. Hazel Tyers
Registered: 2003
The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:
It’s been a while since we’ve had a pink Orchid of the Week, so here is a lovely older one with a big bold red lip for you! Large flowers with a lovely shade of pink make this plant popular even today.
The pollen parent, Cym. Hazel Tyres, has been a hugely popular Cym since it’s registration in 1976 and has been used an incredible number of times in breeding, producing some outstanding plants since, and Cym. Hazel Tyers has been a previous Orchid of the Week for us.
The image above was provided by Orchid Design, located in San Jose California, so if you are looking for Cym. Helen Tangcay in the United States, then give them a shout, I’m sure they’d love to help you out.
Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum, Cym. hookerianum and Cym. eburneum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
