Orchid of the Week

This weeks Orchid of the week is… Cym. Marilyn Hatfield

Cym. Marilyn Hatfield
Cym. Marilyn Hatfield

Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. James Toya × Cym. Flaming Pepper

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

This week’s Orchid of the Week is a product of the work of George Hatfield, from Hatfield Orchids in the U.S. George is a very experienced grower and breeder and has produced some wonderful Cym’s over the years. And you will see more of his work in Orchid of the Week as we go.

Marilyn Hatfield is a very showy red with a big bold lip and will be a great addition to any collection, but you will find it hard to obtain!
There are no registered offspring as yet, but Cym. Flaming pepper has proven to be a great parent so I’m sure some great qualities would be passed down if it is bred with.

These images were taken from George’s Facebook post (with his permission) about the plant in 2016, and I believe the plant was grown in Victoria, so I apologise to the photographer for not including a credit.

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots Cym. insigne is the major contributor present in the distant background, with a mix of another nine minor species contributors.
