Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Vibrant Bliss × Cym. Pharaoh’s Star

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

This week’s Orchid of the Week is a very nice bright colourful yellow with big 100mm round flowers. Again, this one is quite popular with the backyard enthusiast, and is a classic modern round shape for the showbench. Marilyn Thomas is still widely available and a great one to have in the collection.

Marilyn Thomas really is a sight to see in a multi-spiking plant. Long thick spikes project the flowers up above and over the foliage for all to see and the bright yellow flower really stands out!

Rarely bred with so far, the only registered crossings have been made by 3 Amigo’s Orchids. Having seen one of the progeny – Amigos Sunset, it’s also worth a look.

This image of Cym. Marilyn Thomas ‘5043’ was taken from my 2023 flowering this week!

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots Cym. insigne, Cym. lowianum, Cym. hookerianum and Cym. eburneum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
