Orchid of the Week

This week’s Orchid of the Week is… Cym. Loch Watten ‘Dural’

Orchid of the Week - Cym. Loch Watten 'Dural'
Orchid of the Week – Cym. Loch Watten ‘Dural’

Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Pure Ice × Cym. Mem. Merv Dunn

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

Cym. Loch Watten ‘Dural’ is our Orchid of the Week this week because clean whites such as this are classic, and look fantastic. Simple as that! A multi-spiking plant such as this looks absolutely gorgeous, and if you haven’t seen one, then get along to your annual orchid shows to see one, there is usually a few there.

Registered by McBeans, who bred some really fantastic Cymbidiums over the years. This one was a standout and has already been used half a dozen times as a parent. Breeders such as Keith Wallace and Bryants Orchids obviously liked Cym. Loch Watten enough to use it as a parent and plants such as Cym. Dural Arcadian Snow, Cym. Dural Ice and Cym. True Creator have been produced from it.

I have Cym. Dural Ice in my collection, and I will also be acquiring a Cym. Loch Watten ‘Dural’ when the opportunity arises for my own breeding purposes! My wife loves the clean white classics and Cym. Loch Watten is definitely worth aquiring!

Looking back at the original species ancestors of this plant, using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne, Cym. hookerianum and Cym lowianum are the major contributors present in the distant background.
