Orchid of the Week – Cym. Satin Dragon ‘Cinnabar’

Parentage: This is a cross between Cym. Khan Flame × Cym. Francis Aebi

The reason why it’s our Orchid of the Week:

This week we head to the 2010 Santa Barbara International Orchid Show and the Grand Champion of that year – Cymbidium Satin Dragon ‘Cinnabar’.

Originating from Royale Orchids, but grown and registered by a very experienced Weegie Caughlan in the U.S, Satin Dragon displays large flowers on tall upright spikes.

Cym. Khan Flame has proven to be a very good breeding parent and Cym. Francis Aebi is also a descendant of a previous Orchid of the Week – Cym. Sensation, So some good genes here!

The image used above has been borrowed from Eric Hunt and his flikr web page.

Looking back at the original species ancestors of Cym. Satin Dragon using Orchid Roots, Cym. insigne and Cym. lowianum are the major other contributors present in the distant background with a little Cym. eburneum thrown in too.
